We’ve named the rooms and suites of the Auberge in homage to the artists and writers who have lived in the quartier du Carré St-Louis.
André Gagnon
Born in 1942 in Saint-Pacôme, Quebec, the composer and pianist is an important figure who has left his mark on the Quebec music scene. He has worked with Monique Leyrac, Renée Claude, Claude Léveillée and Clémence Desrochers, all Quebec musical stars, to name but a few. He was George Moustaki’s piano accompanist when the French singer toured in concert. He composed several film scores, scores for plays and the music for the opera Nelligan. He has appeared onstage overseas, notably in Paris, London, Tokyo and in the U.S. In 1974 he bought the house where once lived the poet Émile Nelligan, on rue Laval, right near Carré St-Louis.
